An amazing and successful year

Good cheer and happy summer. Despite the heat, smoke, fires, road closures etc., the Friends of Boundary County Historic Places has had a really successful year.
We started with a clean-up of West Fork cabin and our timing was good. The roads closed soon after we were there. So, as far as we know, the cabin is clean ... if a little smokey, and resting for the season.
We had a great and fun Bingo fund-raiser. People are very generous and we appreciate that. We actually had additional donations from folks unable to attend; not only local residents, but from Friends in Michigan, Spokane, Wisconsin and New York. There were kind notes of support and it really means something to us that people like what we're doing. Thank you all very much.
Bingo was followed by an Open House at Snyder Guard Station. We worked earlier in the summer to upgrade some of the displays and to clean the entire facility. The SPOT bus came out and was completely filled. Many of the people who came to the Open House had been in Boundary County most of their lives and had never seen the site.
So many others had stories about family members and friends who had worked there over the years. It was a wonderful day of stories and reminiscences.
We are resting until October. We will be purchasing materials necessary to replace the shingle roof on the Snyder Guard Station residence. The Forest Service is providing a carpenter and team from the Historic preservation program. We will assist as we can.
For those of you interested in the Boulder townsite, our work still stands and the grasses are taking hold. The fences around the building-remains need some repair, and a little debris clean-up is necessary. Generally, the site looks as good as it can. We will get together as a board and figure out how to help.
Don't forget to check out our website regularly and to follow our new Facebook page! We've added several new stories and we appreciate any comments that you have, or stories of your own that you would like to submit.
Good cheer everyone. We hope this finds you safe and happy,
Pat Hart
